Thai Fusion with a Blend of South Asian Spices

A unique South Asian - Thai Fusion Restaurant in the heart of curry hill takes on the unique challenge of bringing two ancient and complex cuisines to New York City in a new and inventive way.

Over the past few decades, developing independently, both South Asian and Thai restaurants have staked out a brave and assertive place in the pantheon of New York cuisine. Conversations about curries and spices, leaves and ancient herbs, in all their colorful and vibrant variations, flow casually across the tables. Chal Chilli represents not only the hard-earned combination, but also the boldness of innovation.

All the well-known staples of each cuisine tradition are still there. From coconut curry to basmati rice; from kaffir lime leaves to turmeric and cumin. Chal Chilli chefs have challenged themselves to create dishes that create audacious encounters. Chicken cooked in a Tandoor oven and sauteed with mango. North Indian barbecue lamb chops glazed with Thai chilli. Beef touched with cilantro. The only limit is imagination and the only denominator is refinement.

To complete her vision, Ayesha Kiani consulted with Fatima Ali—a winner of Chopped on Food Network. Fatima advised on staying true to the South Asian heritage, with adding just the right amount of Thai fusion. To aim for greater authenticity, all the food is halal.

Being opened for a little over a year now, Chal Chilli has been featured in a hour long episode on Cooking Channel's Restaurant Redemption. It has also participated in the Chopped Brunch and Grand Tasting Events at New York City Wine and Food Festival.

Although there are many Thai Restaurants in New York, Chal Chilli is unique. Its traditional Thai dishes are presented with modern ideas, but the taste is a mélange of South Asian Spices.
